Anyway, in Pimp Your Desktop articles, I'm going to show you tips and tricks on how to create that desktop you want. In later articles, I'm going to show you some nifty programs like rocketdock and rainmeter so you can get a cool desktop with everything you need. I'll also show you how I got my desktop to look like this.
(Yes I know there are three clocks, so what?)
Part 1: Getting a cool Wallpaper.
The first and easiest step to getting a great desktop is of course a great wallpaper. You may be stuck with your regular Windows XP "mountain wallpaper" but fret not! Here's a bunch of sites where you can get whatever wallpaper your heart desires.
Abduzeedo-Graphic Designs
http://abduzeedo.com/ is probably one of the best places to get graphic wallpapers. They regularly feature wallpapers, artists and my personal favorite, photoshop tutorials. Check it out if you like graphic wallpapers. Direct Link to Wallpapers section: http://abduzeedo.com/tags/wallpaper
Although everything there is worth a right-click-save-as, here are a few of my personal favorites.
TIP:Click the images to get to the page where you can download them.
DeviantArt-Everything
http://www.deviantart.com/ is probably almost a social networking site for artists and wannabe artists. It's a great place to be inspired. There are literally millions of artists here. Since it's more of a gallery per artist rather than a compilation of works there's really no wallpaper section but here's the next best thing: http://browse.deviantart.com/photography/?q=wallpaper and click on the left side which category you'd like. (Photography for example)
Edit: My bad. It does have a wallpaper section http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/wallpaper/ and to think I've been a member since forever lol.
Vlad Studio-Graphic/Cartoony
http://www.vladstudio.com/wallpapers/ could you imagine that everything here is just from one artist? There's a lot of great stuff and it's available at all the possible resolutions designed on this planet earth. Definitely worth a visit.
MiniTokyo-Anime
http://www.minitokyo.net/ When I was still heavily watching anime, this was one of my favorite places to get wallpapers. They have a lot of wallpapers so feel free to browse it. They also have scans and indy art if your interested in that. You may have to register to download though (can't remember).
Can you please tell me how I can find the clock/calendar that you have on the bottom right of the desktop screenshot? Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteHi! Bottom right? I can't see a clock there o.o If you're talking about the calendar/clock cobination on the left it's a rainmeter skin called "Circle for rainmeter by aidaaah" you can find it throught deviantart's website while the one on the top right is a part of the "suite" Enigma from rainmeter.net http://rainmeter.net/RainCMS/?q=Downloads
ReplyDeletehope that's the one you were talking about :)
